Even if i have 2 GPU's I can disable one of my GPU's and it will still out perform the GTX 280. The 4870 Clock is 800MHZ and the GTX has a Clock speed of only 602MHZ So do the math.

Plus, with your logic, graphics solution manufacturers wouldnt be even making single gpu solutions anymore, which is just a laughable idea. And Just the sheer fact that a single gpu card is fairly comparable to a dual gpu solution says a lot about the card. I think it is you who knows very little about cards.
